This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

6th Bavarian Infantry Division


This Peacetime Army unit was formed in November 1815

The 5th Bavarian and 6th Bavarian Divisions combined to form the III Bavarian Corps.

 The Division was based in Ragensburg

 11th Bavarian Infantry Brigade
(Ingolstad)

 10th (King Ludwig) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment (Ingolstad)
13th (Grand Duke Friedrich Franz I) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment (Ingolstad)

12th Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade (Ragensburg)

 6th (Kaiser Wilhelm KIng of Prussia) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment (Amberg)
11th (Van Der Tann) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment (Ragensburg)

 6th Royal Bavarian Artillery Brigade

 2/3rd Bavarian Pioneer Battalion

At the beginning of the war the Division also included the 2nd Bavarian Reserve Jager Battalion, and the 2nd Chevaulegers (Taxis) Regiment.
