The 3rd Guards Division started the war on the Western Front but was quickly moved to the East where it took part in the Battle of the Masurian Lakes. It then marched into the Carpathians taking part in the Battle of Tarnapol.
In 1916 it was back in action on the Western Front at the Somme. It was then sent back the Eastern Front before returning to Lorraine on the Western Front at the end of the year.
It spent 1917 in Flanders and took part in the battle of Cambrai and the fighting on the Hindenburg line.
In 1918 it fought in the Kaisers Battle or the Great Battle in France, before falling back into Germany at the end of the war.
