The 2nd Guards Division was formed from the Guards Corps and comprised of the 3rd and 4th Guards Brigades.
In 1914 it fought on the Western Front, at most notably at Artois and Ypres, it then went into reserve before entraining for the Eastern Front where it took part in the Gorlice-Tarnow Battle.
By September 1915 it was back on the Western Front where it was engaged in the Flanders area and on the Somme.
In 1917 it fought at Verdun on the Western Front and Riga on the Eastern Front. It ended the war in the West
