This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

13th Infantry Regiment

13th (1st Westfalian) Infantry Regiment (Herwarth von Bittenfeld)

Founded: 1st July 1813

Garrison:  Munster

The Regiment was formed from personnel of the following units

III/1st East Prussian Battalion
Lithuanian Reserve Fusiliers
2nd East Prussian Reserve Battalions

The Regiment was formed at Graudenz on 1st July 1813.  The Regiment fought in the war against France.

1st Battalion
2nd Battalion
3rd Battalion
4th Battalion

On 25th April 1815 the 4th Battalion was disbanded, and the 3rd formed as a Fusilier Battalion.

In 1849 the Regiment put down a revold in Iserlohn.

In 1864 the Regiment took part in the war against Denmark.

In 1866 the Regiment was part of the main army in the war against Austria

In 1870 the Regiment took part in the war against France
