This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

4th Bavarian Infantry Division

This Peacetime Army unit was formed in November 1815

The 4th Bavarian and 3rd Bavarian Divisions combined to form the II Bavarian Corps

7th Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade
5th (Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig von Hessen) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
9th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
8th Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade Transferred to the 33rd Reserve Division at the start of the war, on 3rd August 1916 it was transferred to the 14th Royal Bavarian Infantry Division, and on 15th September 1918 to the 6th Royal Bavarian Reserve Infantry Division.

4th Royal Bavarian Artillery Brigade
2/2nd Bavarian Pioneer Battalion

At the beginning of the war the Division also included the 2nd Bavarian Jager Battalion, and the 5th (Arch Duke Friedrich of Austria) Light Horse Regiment.

This peacetime Army unit was formed in September 1818

Home Station: Bromburg

7^th InfantryBrigade	To 222nd Infantry Division on 23rd September 1916. To 301st Infantry Division on 2nd October 1918.
14th Infantry Regiment Graf Schwerin (3rd Pommeranian), formed on 1st July 1813, garrisoned in Bromberg
149th (6th West Prussian) Infantry Regiment, formed on 31st March 1897, garrisoned in Schneidemuhl
8^th InfantryBrigade
49th (6th Pommeranian) Infantry Regiment, formed on 5th May 1860, garrisoned in Gnesen
140th (4th West Prussian) Infantry Regiment, formed on 1st February 1890, garrisoned in Hohensalza
12th Dragoon Regiment von Arnim (2. Brandenburgisches)
4th Field Artillery Brigade	17th Field Artillery Regiment 53rd Field Artillery Regiment
