This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

This peacetime Army unit was formed in September 1818

44th Infantry Regiment "Graf Dönhoff" (7th East Prussian), formed on 5th May 1860, garrisoned in Goldap
44th Infantry Regiment
4th Infantry Brigade

33rd Fusilier Regiment "Graf Roon" (East Prussian), formed on 6th March 1749, garrisoned in Gummbinen

45th Infantry Regiment (8th East Prussian), formed on 5th May 1860, garrisoned in Insterburg
To 101st Infantry Division (1915)
10th Horse Jaeger Regiment

2nd Field Artillery Brigade
1st Field Artillery Regiment (1st Lithuanian)
37th Field Artillery Regiment (2nd Lithuanian)

The 2nd Infantry Division served on the Eastern Front, and fought at Tannenberg, the 1st and 2nd Masurian Lakes and after the defeat of Russia it was moved to the Western Front.  It ended the war in the area of Antwerp.
