Forward

This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

At the start of the war the 43rd Brigade was detached to attack and take the city of Liege.  The remainder of the Division saw action at Namur as part of the 3rd Army.  All the components of the Division entrained for the Russian Front.

In October 1914 the Division fought in the German offensives in Poland until March 1915.

In July 1915 it took part in further German offensives in the East as part of the 4th Austrian Army.  In the Spring of 1916 it rested in the Vilna before being sent to Galacia and Romania to counter the Russian offensives there.

In January 1917 it rejoined the 4th Austrian Army on the Lipe.  Having taken part in the Tarnopol offensive it returned in October to the Western Front.
